The Dukes: Statement on the Government's Arts and Culture Support package
We greatly welcome the news of the Government’s support package for the arts and cultural industries and are pleased to see recognition for the vital role that we play in our communities, our economy and our national well-being. There is still much work to be done to ensure that our industry as a collective can return, but we look forward to learning more details about how these funds will be implemented, as well as guidelines for how we can move towards restarting our theatre.
The call for support from our colleagues, friends, peers, audiences and communities has proven immensely powerful – thank you so much for continuing to give your voice. It is so valued.
Here is the statement from our Director, Karen O'Neill:
"This confirmation of support for the arts and culture across the UK from the Government is both a huge relief and powerful message of the important role of cultural organisations, artists and the creative industries.
Our sector is made up of many talented individuals in roles on and off our stages who are a part of the community in which they live and work, as well as many organisations who provide pivotal support, acting as a hub for many villages, towns and cities across the UK. The Dukes is one of those organisations, with its community at its heart; this investment will allow it to keep beating. Things will continue to be tough for a while, but we are now focused on recovery and new adventures when we are able to bring back all aspects of the Dukes work.
We would like to thank everyone who has supported us and others across the UK and we would like to give credit to ACE, UK Theatre and all the others who worked with DCMS and HM Treasury to make the case for this investment."
