Dark Dukes - From the Depths of Darkness
Dark Dukes is back from the depths of darkness, emerging for another unforgettable week of film. Step into the world of the unknown with our handpicked selection of horror films, live events, talks, crafts and more sleepless nights.
To help you navigate the programme here are some top tips from our Head of Cinema Johnathan!
Shaun of the Dead
We’ll be joined by the UK’s biggest horror podcast, The Evolution of Horror, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Edgar Wright’s zombie-comedy classic. Hosts Becky Darke and Mike Muncher will be introducing a screening of the film followed by a panel discussion exploring the film’s legacy.
Oddity
Fresh from London’s Fright Fest, Oddity is a strange curiosity unlike any other film this year. The film follows clairvoyant Darcy who seeks revenge after the brutal murder of her sister. Damian McCarthy’s chiller combines elements of haunted house films and Irish folklore to create what filmmaker Mike Flanagan (Doctor Sleep, The House on Haunted Hill) has hailed as “a masterclass in dread, atmosphere, and tension”. Witnessing one of the most unsettling wooden effigies since The Wicker Man is worth the admission alone.
The Moor
The Moor marks a thrilling new voice in British horror in Chris Cronin who delivers an eerie Northern folk horror. Cronin roots his tale of a woman seeking the final resting place of her murdered childhood friend in the atmospheric setting of the Yorkshire Moors, and expertly ratchets up the tension. After the screening, we’ll also be joined by Chris for a Q&A discussing the film.
Sharp Shocks
Discover the next big thing. For our third year of the festival, we are expanding the programme to include a short film showcase and we’re excited to share this curated collection of British and international work.
Join us for Dark Dukes between Wed 23rd & Thu 31st
