BBC award for Gypsy, Roma and Traveller drama project

A drama project, part of a cultural partnership between the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster and Lancaster University focusing on work with the Gypsy, Roma, Traveller (GRT) community, has been highly commended by the BBC.

The ‘Our Voice’ project inspired the judges for the BBC Radio Lancashire ‘Make A Difference’ award in the Community Project of the Year category for our innovative work with local (GRT) communities.

During the coronavirus pandemic, The Dukes held weekly interactive online and in-person autobiographical drama workshops with young Traveller girls exploring their own stories to challenge stereotypical portrayals of their communities.

The 2021 BBC Radio Lancashire Make A Difference Awards results we're revealed on Saturday 11 September Blackpool Winter Gardens Pavilion.
