To celebrate, the Dukes are spreading the love with a one week season of romantic delights to suit any mood. Whether you’re looking for a comedy, weepy romance, steamy drama, or vibrant sci-fi/fantasy, there’s something for everyone across cinema and theatre. Here’s a handy guide! 


The History of Sound (15)

Mood: Serene and powerful. 

When: 13-19 February. 

Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor star as two lovers who travel around Maine collecting and recording folk songs. Their romance unfolds as they discover the soul-healing power of music. Get the tissues ready for this one! 


100 Nights of Hero (12A)

Mood: Bright and playful. 

When: 13-19 February. 

Our Galentine’s pick, this whimsical historical fantasy follows Cherry, a woman whose husband leaves for 100 days to test her loyalty. A love triangle ensues involving her maid Hero and the flirty Manfred. It also features Charli xcx on the harp! 


In the Mood for Love (PG)

Mood: Rich and beautiful. 

When: 14 February. 

Wong Kar-wai's masterpiece returns to cinemas for its 25th anniversary. Two neighbours grow close when they realise their spouses are having an affair with each other. An exquisite tension lingers as they try to avoid committing the same betrayal. This one’s for fans of beautiful cinematography. 


Lesbian Space Princess (15)

Mood: Cute and funny. 

When: 14 February. A kooky animation about Saira, the lesbian space princess herself, who goes on a dangerous quest to rescue her ex from paper-like aliens called the “straight white male- iens”. The screening is hosted by Queer Boots who are also running a free comic/zine workshop before the film! 


Pillion (18)

Mood: Steamy and intense. 

When: 13-14 February. 

The Alexander Skarsgård film you might have heard about! In this erotic drama, introverted Colin gets swept into a BDSM relationship with cool and confident Ray. When he joins Ray’s biker gang and gets lost in his world, Colin learns about his own limits and desires. 


Private Lives (14+)

Mood: Witty and chaotic. 

When: 24-28 February. 

And finally, one for theatre fans. HER Productions are bringing Noël Coward’s comedy to the Round. Divorced couple Elyot and Amanda discover they are honeymooning just opposite each other with their new spouses. Chaos ensues when old love (and hate) reignites.
