Set against the backdrop of the Lake District, The Double is a film about ambition, obsession and what happens when a dream is called into question.
Ellis Bland is one of Britain’s leading ultra runners, with records and wins across some of the country’s toughest races. Having twice attempted to take the record for the Double Bob Graham Round, a brutal 130-mile, 84-fell challenge through the Lake District, he is determined to return for a third attempt and finally achieve what has so far eluded him.
Through Ellis, the film enters the world of fell and ultra running: a world built around endurance, sacrifice and an almost obsessive pursuit of the impossible. But when the body refuses to follow the mind, everything is thrown into question.
