LITFEST: Poetry Double Bill: Kim Moore & Eoghan Walls

Kim Moore’s latest collection conjures an intimate atmosphere of haunted domesticity, the poems questioning and incantatory as a lullaby whispered to a cradled baby. Throughout, fears, griefs and anxieties are paired with moments of great tenderness, wit and revelation: brokenness can feel like a trap, but these poems always offer a way out.

Elsa and the Wolfman is a powerful, lyrical duet between father and daughter, written in two contrasting voices. The father, poet and caregiver, uses classical forms to wrestle with anxieties of raising a child and growing older, while Elsa’s lines – wilful, instinctive, curious – dart across the page countering and shaping him. The result is a book of love, learning, and the profound, playful bond between father and daughter.

AUTHORS:

Kim Moore was born in Leicester and now lives in West Yorkshire. Her first collection The Art of Falling won the 2015 Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize. Her second collection All the Men I Never Married won the 2022 Forward Prize for Best Collection. She is a Lecturer in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University.

Eoghan Walls was born in Derry and studied English and Philosophy at University College, Dublin. He has published two novels, The Gospel of Orla and Field Notes from an Extinction, and three poetry collections, The Salt Harvest, Pigeon Notes and most recently, Elsa and The Wolfman. He teaches Creative Writing at Lancaster University.
