‘It was Christmas Eve in the little farmhouse. The air was full of good smells of spices and jam and hot cocoa. No one was expecting any presents, but there would be leaf bread, and cookies, and Grandmother's embroidered tablecloth, and they would all do what they could to make the Yuletide bright.'

Join Lancaster author Katherine Woodfine to mark the publication of her latest book, The Christmas Book, beautifully illustrated by Lizzy Stewart and published by Faber.

All ages are welcome to come along to a cosy afternoon of readings and activities to celebrate the book, discover the Icelandic book-gifting tradition of Jólabókaflóð (the Christmas Book Flood) that inspired the story, and join in with seasonal crafts.

‘A beautiful heart-warming story, perfect for families reading together at Christmas’ - Joseph Coelho

Books and festive refreshments will be available to buy.

Katherine Woodfine is the author of the Sinclair’s Mysteries and Taylor & Rose Secret Agents series, beginning with The Clockwork Sparrow, which was a Sunday Times bestseller and nominated for numerous awards. As well as retelling Anne of Green Gables, she has adapted Jane Austen's Pride & Prejudice for younger readers and most, recently, Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone. Born and raised in Lancashire, she now lives in Lancaster.

Lizzy Stewart is an illustrator and artist currently based in London. She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art in 2009, and received an MA in Communication Design from Central St Martins in 2013. Her first book, There's a Tiger in the Garden, was the winner of the 2017 Waterstones Children's Book Prize, Illustrated Books Category.
