‘Lives in Writing’ – Eleanor Levin
Eleanor Levin’s ‘Historical Women of Lancaster – Diverse Lives’ tour (2023) introduced participants to the fascinating and hugely diverse lives of ten women from different eras of Lancaster’s history. (See p. 39 for a full description of this tour.)
Now, for Litfest 2025 on International Women’s Day, Eleanor has created a brand new tour, ‘Historical Women of Lancaster – Lives in Writing’. Building on her initial work, the new tour focuses on women’s words and writing about women, including a nurse writing postcards home from First World War France, an upcycling artist, a loom-breaking luddite, an anti-slavery campaigner, a child (much discussed but little understood), a thief, a duke and a poet.
Eleanor Levin is a local educator and tour guide who brings history to life by creating original performance pieces and walking tours. As well as championing women’s history, she also leads tours for adults and children on Lancaster involvement with Transatlantic slavery, the history of Morecambe, and trees.
