For Saturday 10 January, we celebrate the life and career of Davie Bowie, in honour of the 10th anniversary of his passing.
In this talk, Professor Andrew Tate will explore Bowie’s career as an actor and his screen legacy. With a career spanning brief cameos to leading roles with some of cinema’s greatest filmmakers, David Bowie’s screen performances rival his music career in terms of cultural impact and iconography. From working with Jim Henson in Labyrinth to roles in works by Christopher Nolan, David Lynch, Nicholas Roeg and Martin Scorsese, Bowie left an indelible mark on the cinema screen.
Andrew Tate is a Bowie superfan and Professor of Literature and Culture at Lancaster University’s School of Arts, where he specialises in literature, theology and visual culture.
Also on Saturday 10 January, we will be screening the 40th anniversary re-release of Labyrinth and new documentary Bowie: The Final Act.
