Survive the Summer Holidays with the Dukes!

August is almost here - and if the holidays have crept up on you, you might be on the hunt for some summer activities. Here at the Dukes (and over at our second home, Williamson Park), we have theatre, cinema, and events to keep the summer vibes going strong!

Robin Hood

The iconic Dukes park show is back, and this year, Robin and his Merry Men are bringing high-stakes adventure to Williamson Park. When the God of the Forest calls, Rob’s destiny is changed forever; and with the Sheriff lording it over the townsfolk (that’s you!), Rob and his pals will have to work together to save the day.

Join us for an evening of catchy tunes, interval entertainment from Lord Fopp and the Community Chorus, unmissable tights, and an immersive experience you won’t forget.

When: Friday 17th July - Sunday 23rd August, 7:15pm

Playreading Club

Our popular Playreading Club meets every month, and you can join them. On the first Wednesday of the month, the group reads a different full-length play, announced shortly before the session. By hugely popular demand, we’ve added a second session in the afternoon - but get in quick, because places sell out fast!

When: Wednesday 5th August, 11am & 4pm

Summer School

Join our Young Company for their annual summer school. Children aged 7-14 can take part in creative rehearsal sessions alongside games and improvisation, all led by a skilled practitioner. The week will culminate with a performance for family and friends in our Moor Space venue. A perfect opportunity for kids to get creative over the holidays!

We also run sessions for 5-7 year olds, and they just finished their fabulous Play in 2 Days! Check out Young Company if you’re on the look-out for drama-themed Autumn activities.

When: Monday 24th - Friday 28th August, 10am - 4pm

Cinema

If cinema is more your thing, we’ve got the biggest summer flicks including the new live-action Moana and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. We also have the dreamy family film The Summer Book starring Glenn Close and based on the novel by Tove Jansson (The Moomins).

To celebrate Aardman Animation's 50th Anniversary, there's a full day of Wallace and Gromit on August 5! It’s a Food & Film event so remember to add your snackbox at checkout. Enjoy jam on toast, a Wensleydale Ploughman’s, or cheese and chilli jam scones, depending on the film you choose. Or choose all three and have a feast!
