Sunset Screenings: The sun is nearly gone, the lights are turning on...

The wait for the Sunset Screenings is almost over – and it’s an unusually short wait, with the move from September to May. The newly Spring-ified season features a selection of films from musicals, romances, horrors, classics, and of course, one complete mystery. Here’s your guide to the season (with some extra La La Land sprinkled in) and why each film belongs in the park.

La La Land

‘I'd never fall for you at all...’

When: Saturday 16 May, 9pm

The Sunset Screenings will kick off with ‘Another Day of Sun’, the lights will be twinkling in the dark for ‘City of Stars’, and it’ll be well into the night when the dreamy montage hits. It won’t be a waste of a lovely night!

At 8pm, The Luca Brasi Group will set the mood with a wonderful Jazz set - make sure to not miss out!

Dirty Dancing

‘Some chance for romance...’

When: Sunday 17 May, 9pm

If you’re looking for a lift (pun intended), Johnny and Baby’s summer holiday romance will bring the nostalgic vibes. Just don’t try recreating that lake scene in the park. The ducks will not be happy.

Stand By Me (40th Anniversary)

‘We've stumbled on a view...’

When: Monday 18 May, 9pm

For fans of grittier stories, Stephen King’s story about four boys who make a terrible discovery will give you the drama you’re looking for.

Sinners

‘Tailor-made for two...’

When: Tuesday 19 May, 9pm

In Ryan Coogler’s blues horror, the Oscar-winning score and cinematography will soar in the open air. And like Stand By Me, there’s a lot of outdoor action – perfect for a thriller experience in the woods!

Mystery Film

‘Maybe this appeals...’

When: Wednesday 20 May, 9pm

You know how it goes – it's a complete mystery, so be ready for anything!

Are you up for quizzing? Our monthly film quiz with Kriss Foster will be happening up in the park prior to the screening. Get a group together and join us!

“Wuthering Heights”

‘There's only you and I...’

When: Thursday 21 May, 9.15pm

If any story belongs out in the wily windy moors park, it’s Wuthering Heights. With its misty landscapes and atmospheric soundtrack, this is one film where a bit of rain might actually add to the experience!

Top Gun (40th Anniversary)

‘This swirling sky...’

When: Friday 22 May, 9.15pm

Another nostalgia fest, the ‘80s classic features impressive visuals, great music, and ‘high’ drama (teehee) to bring out the best of the outdoor cinema experience.

Mamma Mia!

‘I think I'll be the one to make that call...’

When: Saturday 23 May, 9.15pm

The fan favourite returns to Sunset. Get your pals, get your snacks, enjoy the sultry tones of Pierce Brosnan, and party to ABBA’s greatest hits. Williamson Park might not be a Greek island but it’s still an outdoor adventure!

Sense and Sensibility

‘You're not the type for me...’

When: Sunday 24 May, 9.15pm

Last year we had Pride and Prejudice, and this year it’s another picturesque Jane Austen classic. From the dream team of Ang Lee and Emma Thompson, the story of the Dashwood sisters ends the season on a lighthearted high.
