Nick Fragel, Lisa Nicholas, John Whitehead, Hank Williams

With Zoe Lambert

Four novelists with strong connections to the north-west and all working in different genres – fantasy, crime, historical and literary fiction –  will read from and talk about their work. They will discuss the challenges, surprises, similarities and rewards of getting published in Britain today.

If you are writing or thinking about writing fiction with a view to publication, this session exploring the unexpected pleasures of writing and the eye-opening (and sometimes funny) realities of publication could be just the encouragement you need.

AUTHORS:

Nick Fragel works at Lancaster University and is the author of the self-published fantasy series Merlin Commando set in a once and future Britain.

Lisa Nicholas is a writer and journalist and the author of two self-published mysteries, Sister Liar Suspect Sleuth and Mother, Rebel, Misfit, Sleuth

John Whitehead is a retired professor at Lancaster University and the author of The Three Promises of John Coakley Lettsom, the self-published story of a slave-owner who rejected the role passed down to him by his family. (Bill Swainson will read for John.)

Hank Williams is a retired management consultant. His first novel What Fools We Have Been will be published in March 2026.
