VENUE: The Auditorium, The Storey, Lancaster

Hosted by Malika Booker

Curated and hosted by Litfest’s Poet in Residence, Malika Booker, this event will bring together up to 15 talented poets in a special gala event, in which they will read their poems on this year’s theme of ‘The World into Words’, and Malika will read her own work on the theme together with poems by other poets, old and new.

Selected from submissions to this year’s Litfest Digital Poetry Map, our chosen poets and Malika will provide an evening of shared community, storytelling and the special magic of poetry’s transformative powers as the world we think we know is recreated ad seen more truly in word than with our eyes.

Malika Booker is a British spoken word poet of Guyanese and Grenadian parentage and the founder of Malika’s Poetry Kitchen. She is currently Creative Writing Lecturer at Manchester Metropolitan University and the recipient of a Slate Award to research and develop her new play. Her poetry collection Pepper Seed was shortlisted for the Seamus Heaney Centre Prize and her poem ‘Nine Nights’ was shortlisted on the Forward Prize for best Single Poem in 2017. She was Chair of Judges for the Forward Prize in 2016 and was inaugural Poet in Residence at the Royal Shakespeare Company.
