In Conversation with Gurmit Singh

Two memoirs set in completely different worlds by two writer rebels, who have lived life on their own terms, and explored what it means to be queer through their writing. Paul and Gordon compare and contrast their experiences, the ethical dilemmas faced, risks taken, and the reactions to exposing their lives to public scrutiny almost 30 years apart.

We Can Be Heroes (2023) is the true story of how Paul Burston lived through two pandemics, battled his demons and survived.

‘A compelling and enjoyable memoir about a fearless life lived to the full’ Bernardine Evaristo

In The Pope's Armada (1995) Gordon Urquhart reveals his 9 years as a gay man in the largest of three ultra-conservative Catholic cults.

‘A remarkably balanced and informative account...his book is disturbing’ Karen Armstrong, New Statesman
