In the last few years podcast presenter Annabel Ross has commissioned leading naturalists to take on the persona of a wild animal – from the tiniest creature on land, sea or sky, to an otter, a shark or a golden eagle. Each expert gives a brief interview as that creature, always ending with a message to the human world. You can find these remarkable and fascinating interviews at https://www.messagesfromthewild.com and you can find some of them via QR codes at RSPB Leighton Moss nature reserve.
‘This made me laugh out loud, and I felt briefly even warm towards these critters who have stolen so much of my blood over the years’ Robert MacFarlane on ‘The Highland Midge’
‘This podcast is what the world needs – delicate, connected, earthy and funny!!’ K. Howe, Bristol, listener
For this event, Annabel will interview a number of animal experts from RSPB Leight Moss live on stage and talk about ‘Messages from the Wild’ and the role we can all play in protecting our wildlife and conserving their habitats. Audience members will be encouraged to ask their own questions of the ‘animals’.
As a special part of this Litfest 2026 project, we invite everyone, young and old, to send us a message from a wild creature found in the British Isles in not more than 100 words as either a voice note, a text or an email to info@litfest.org, and we will post it on our ‘Messages from the Wild’ map, giving the approximate location. We will also highlight the 15 best messages, by adding a photograph of the creature – and you may find your message is used in the event itself.
Deadline for submission: midnight, Friday 6 March
