François Ozon’s latest film is a joyous comedy set in 1935 Paris, which sees a young actress acquitted of murdering a famous French Producer. However, this is where the story just begins.
Madeleine (Nadia Tereszkiewicz), a pretty, young, penniless and talentless actress, is accused of murdering a famous producer (Jean-Christophe Bouvet). Helped by her best friend Pauline (Rebecca Marder), a young unemployed lawyer, she is acquitted on the grounds of self-defence.
A new life of fame and success begins, until the truth comes out. French A-listers Isabelle Huppert (a silent movie queen), Fabrice Luchini (the pedantic magistrate) and Danny Boon (a suave bon vivante) complete the cast.
This is a funny, beautifully charismatic film, full of brilliant characters, gorgeous costumes and captivating production design. It is a delicious bit of feel-good French farce from master director François Ozon.
